Unbalanced…

The past few days I have noticed my Garmin watch has my HRV status as unbalanced, which is quite accurate for how I feel both mentally and physically now. Since Feb I have had issues with my left foot, and since March or April, pain in my left rotator cuff. Both of which I have spoken to the GP about, and over recent weeks I have received treatment and further checks for both. The treatment for my foot has been shock wave therapy. Three treatments over three weeks, leaving me both in discomfort, and unable to run for the next eight weeks. It has already been a month or so since I last ran, so you can imagine it is getting to me a bit. No pounding the pavement to de-stress.

So the next eight weeks I cannot do any high impact exercise, which to a degree also means no cycling either, which is a double whammy for me. Not only can I not run before work, I can’t ride to clear my head either. A prisoner in my own company and even worse, my own mind. Add to that the fact I am not allowed to even take anti inflammatories to ease the discomfort for the next two weeks and I am in a right old state.

So as I said at the start, my HRV is starting to show as unbalanced, mainly due to the severe lack of physical exertion, leaving me with bundles of energy, which if not used in physical activity, I somehow carry over to using it for over processing things mentally instead. I am sure some days I burn more calories over thinking things, than I do having a run.

Knowing what the next eight weeks hold for me puts me in a bit of a funk on its own, then I found out the other day that I am having steroid injections in my shoulder next week to treat it, while I await physio at the hospital. It just keeps getting better. That is not to say I am not grateful that I am receiving treatment so quickly, I really am grateful, just dreading how I will feel with a sore foot and shoulder at the same time.

Needless to say I am suffering a bit mentally. So the last thing I needed today was a bit of a snafoo towards the end of the day to bring home with me and over think for the rest of the night. It was nothing major as such, but the subsequent discussion about it left me feeling how all such conversations do. Stupid, incompetent and like a child scorned. Of course I am making more of this than I need to, and nothing bad actually happened. I am simply just up in my own head about it, and I hate it.

Hopefully, really really hopefully, I can snap out of this. I know I am tired at the end of a long run of tours, and have time off coming soon. I just need to find a way to keep my brain occupied, while not overloading myself, and get across the finish line to the long awaited time off. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for reading.
